Jeffrey Donaldson and the DUP are a waste of space in Westminster if they’re not challenging Tory attacks on working class communities. Escalating people power protests and industrial action is key to redistribution of wealth and resources away from elites.
People Before Profit Cllr Shaun Harkin said,
“Liz Truss and her team of Tory vandals have once again declared open warfare on everyone outside the elite super-rich club they represent.
“MP Sammy Wilson made it clear the DUP are stauch allies with nothing but praise for the Tory millionaire’s budget that will deepen inequality and further undermine vital public services, especially our health service.
“The DUP prop-ups vicious Tory attacks even though they disproportionately harm our public services and all our communities.
“DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson claims to be in Westminster “fighting” to make sure people receive cost of living help here. It’s total nonsense. They’re a waste of space in Westminster if they’re not challenging the Tory economic vandalism.
“Liz Truss wants her DUP allies to rule the roost here in order to push ahead with the Tory project that will allow corporate elites to grab even more wealth. They know they can throw the DUP under the bus and still get their support to attack workers, the vulnerable and public services.
“Working class communities need unity to fight for protection from spiralling price hikes, rent hikes and pay cuts – but the Tories and DUP want division.
“Stormont isn’t functioning because of DUP recklessness but all the major parties have shown they aren’t capable of offering a real alternative to Tory attacks and the DUP’s politics of division.
“Mass protests and industrial action from Derry and Dublin to Liverpool and London demanding redistribution of resources and wealth to the majority of people are a very encouraging development. It’s giving many people hope, a sense of empowerment and confidence.
“In the coming months stepping up this resistance will be crucial to saving public services, making sure households aren’t freezing and stopping the assault on trade unions. We need to be prepared to take bold action.”
