Speaking after a debate on the ‘Crisis in SEN’, Gerry Carroll said, “The Executive continues to fail SEN pupils. Each year, children with additional needs and their families face a perpetual crisis for school places and transport. The Education Minister acknowledges these issues, while delivering warm words and promises. But when it comes to action, families of SEN pupils and the education workforce have absolutely no confidence in Paul Givan.”
“The Minister fails to recognise the link between properly valuing the education workforce and ensuring that every child has the support they need.
“The work of classroom assistants is transformative for thousands of children with special educational needs. There have been endless plans, strategies and roadmaps - but very little in the way of action. It’s time to finally listen to the voices of pupils, their families and education workers, and guarantee every pupil the support they need.”
