Face down the Far Right or Face More of their Pogroms

People Before Profit urge support for Sunday's United Against Racism demonstration to counter far right. Says racist pogrom in Ballymena is what the far right will bring to more communities if not faced down. Says housing and other crises are not caused by asylum seekers - Government to blame.

Face down the Far Right or Face More of their Pogroms

Far right groups are planning another anti-immigrant demonstration in Dublin city centre this Sunday, 22nd June 2025.

United Against Racism, a coalition of anti-racist organisations, is organising a counter protest against the far right and its hate agenda at 1.30pm on Sunday, 22nd June at the Central Plaza on Dame Street, Dublin 2.

Over 40 organisations and groups have endorsed this counter demonstration, including trade unions, the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, People Before Profit, the Labour Party, the Social Democrats, the Socialist Party, LGBTQ+ groups, students unions, and many others.

People Before Profit Councillor Conor Reddy said “The far-right are planning another demonstration in Dublin city centre on Sunday afternoon to push their dangerous politics of hate”.

“Last week we saw the far right carry out a terrifying pogrom against immigrant communities in Ballymena and other parts of the North. Far right groups in the South are working hand in hand with the far right in the North. Some of these same groups in the North have carried out pogroms against Catholic communities and hundreds of sectarian murders of Catholics in the North. What happened in Ballymena is what the far right will bring to more and more communities in Ireland if they are not countered and faced down”.

United Against Racism organiser and People Before Profit Councillor Darragh Adelaide said “UAR’s previous counter demonstration in April this year was attended by over 1,000 people, the largest counter to the far right for many years. On Sunday we go again and I urge people to join us at the United Against Racism counter-demonstration at 1.30pm on at the Central Plaza, Dame Street, Dublin 2”.

“We will also call out the Government for causing and intensifying the housing crisis, the shocking lack of resources and supports for those with additional needs, the health and public service crises that have made so many people despair”.

“But the far right wants people to blame immigrants and those seeking asylum instead of blaming the Government and the developers and corporate landlords they represent. The crises we face are not caused by immigrants or asylum seekers, it is the Government who are to blame”.
