Trump’s latest threat that ‘all hell will break out’ if Hamas does not release all hostages by noon on Saturday is the rhetoric of an imperial bully.
He has not said a word about the interment of over 9,000 Palestinians who are locked up without trial on ‘administrative detention’.
Nor has he said anything about Israeli violations of the ceasefire, including the shooting dead of three Palestinians for coming too close to Israeli lines.
Trump is working hand in glove with the far right across the world.
No wonder that the far-right Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, boasted that they have the full backing of Trump to ethnically cleanse Gaza of Palestinians.
Any illusion that Trump is a ‘peacemaker’ is now gone. Trump is fully backing the Zionist project of pushing Palestinians out of Gaza and annexing the West Bank. He supports Netanyahu’s desire to end the ceasefire so that they can resume the inhumane bombing of Gaza.
We have come to a point where every country and every movement must now decide: Do we submit or resist this imperialist bully?
People Before Profit says: Resist.
We need a big re-mobilisation of the solidarity movement to demand that every move or threat by Trump must be answered with decisive action.
The Irish government must be told not to listen to the lobbying efforts of the US embassy and the American Chamber of Commerce. Instead, we should immediately pass the Occupied Territories Bill.
Ireland can no longer accept US troops on its soil when their President issues such brutal threats against the Palestinians. Shannon airport must be closed to US troops.
And NO Irish politician should travel to the White House on St Patrick’s Day to pretend that all is forgiven for a bowl of shamrocks.
Either we capitulate or resist. RESIST.
