A group of participants from Ireland in the Global March to Gaza are flying back to Dublin this morning. People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy is among those returning today. Held by the Egyptian police yesterday, People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy was released from custody on 16th.
In a message from a Cairo, Paul said “I have been detained in the Abdeen police station in Cairo. On the advice of the Irish embassy I went to the station at 12.30pm Egyptian time to enquire about my phone that they took. They took my passport again, had me talk to the secret police and left me in a room with an interpreter. They claim they are looking for my phone. I just attempted to leave but they said that I cannot leave. I understand that other march participants have also been detained”.
Now released Paul will be with a group of participants from Ireland in the Global March to Gaza are flying home today.
Their flight, Egyptair MS 775, is scheduled to land in Dublin at 1.20pm at Terminal 1 today 17 June. They will be available for comment at Dublin airport.
