Removal of War Bonds Major Victory for Palestine Solidarity Movement over Israel and over Irish Government Inaction

Israel has announced that the Central Bank of Ireland will no longer authorise the sale of Israeli war bonds. Israel will also no longer sell their bonds in the Irish market.

Speaking as he was travelling to Tunis to join the Global Sumud Flotilla, People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy said, “This is a major victory for the Palestine solidarity movement. The sustained pressure from activists in Ireland has forced Israel to move the authorisation of the sale of their war bonds within the EU from Ireland to Luxembourg. Israel will also no longer sell their bonds in the Irish market”.

“I salute the activists who achieved this, and I condemn again the complicity of the Irish government in their failure to act on this issue. The tenacity of the activists stands in stark contrast to the weasel words of Simon Harris and the government”.

“It is the global Palestine solidarity movement that has achieved this important win. It is that movement that will overcome the complicity of Western and other governments, and it is the movement that will eventually achieve the disarming and dismantling of the state of Israel”.

“This win is a boost for the Global Sumud Flotilla as we prepare to sail on Gaza to break the Israeli siege. We are buoyed by this news and more determined than ever to deliver another blow against Israel later this week”.
