Trump’s Re-Election Represents Growing Division And Disaffection

“The election of Donald Trump is not something to be welcomed or normalised,” People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carroll has said.

“Trump’s record should be proof enough that there is nothing to gain from a relationship with him which would outweigh the damaging impact of his presidency on workers, minorities, and the wider planet.”

“During his first term, Trump enacted racist policies, such as the so-called Muslim Ban. He pursued an utterly reckless health policy which undermined scientific advice and sacrificed the lives of tens of thousands of ordinary Americans on the altar of profit.”

“Donald Trump is renowned for his misogyny, with a line of women who state that he sexually assaulted him. His nominations to the Supreme Court copper-fastened the death of Roe v Wade.”

“While his recent rhetoric about the genocide in Gaza sought to capitalise on Kamala Harris’ unpopular support for Israel’s slaughter, it was Trump who moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in a week when Israel murdered at least 50 Palestinians.”

“Trump’s re-election represents the growing division and disaffection among ordinary US communities. His plans, however, will only further enrich the billionaires and punish workers, while he will undoubtedly fall back on scapegoating minorities and propagating culture wars to keep people divided. He is not the bulwark against the establishment he claims.”

“As the world faces a system in utter crisis; a genocide in Gaza, climate chaos, a cost-living-crisis, Donald Trump’s vision will only further entrench calamity. Those who wish to see a more progressive world have no business normalising this man, and we will refuse to do so.”

“I am calling on the Executive & the Irish Government to rule out support for another presidency which will further the genocide in Gaza.”
